In case of drive during the whole way we have to know that the total distance is almost 1900 km from Budapest. This distance could be passed one day (20-21 hours) with short stops but it is much easier to drive with a one night stop. Choosing this way North, Middle Italy can be seen where several old castles, famous towns and historical monuments. There ara several rest stations and Autogrill restaurant (friendly prices, Italian foods and cafe). we have to pay twice for the motorway: Tarvizio-Mestre and Mestre- the end of A30. The total fee is about ~50€. The last section (A3) is free (currently). We should leave the A3 at Pizzo and after the exit turn right towards to Tropea. Exept of the first few kilometers the Tyrren sea can be seen from the main road. From Tropea we should keep the way towards to Capo Vaticano. Important that we should have a neo-yellow vest in the car if we drive on the motorways. Who does not like or cannot stand the long car-way choose airplain. There are several smaller and bigger airports such as Catanzaro and Reggio di Calabria. At the airport we can rent car or it is possible to the owner of the apartements takes us from the airport to the house (and back as well). It is a very nice trip if we travel by car a much sorter distance and then keep on by ferryboat to South Italy (Bari). For this we shoud drive to Rieca (Hr, ~500km from Budapest), or Zadar (Hr, ~700 km from Budapest). The ferryboat ships to Bari or Ascona. An estimated fee of the ferryboat (one car, 4 persons and two cabins) ~400€. In this case we can see the Croatian mountains, sea-sides, islands and the open Adriatic sea. Capo Vaticano is ~450 km far From Bari we suggest. ![]() ![]() |
Entrance to Italy on the A23 motarway, which is the contiuation of A2 (A). The border is at Villach (A) and Tarvisio (I) .![]() A23-A4: After Udine we should turn right towards to Mestre/Venezia on the A4 motorway.
A4-A13: Before Padova we should leave the A4 motorway to Ferrara, Bologna on the A13.
A13-A1: The bypass of Bologna joins to the A1 (Roma).
A1-A30: Before Napoli we should keep on our journey on the A30 motorway.
A30-A3: The A30 motorway relative a short way and at Salerno joins to the A3. The A3 is free (currently). ![]() ![]() Who plan this journey with one night stop we suggest to stop and find a hotel before. Capo Vaticano is approx. 550km far from Rome and this distance can be easily to drive on the second day. |
